About Us
The Object of The Trench Experience is to advance the education of the public in relation to the experience and sacrifice of soldiers in The Great War.
The Trench Experience is now in its development stages and once complete will serve as an open-air living history museum to the Western Front of WW1, comprising a full size trench systems, including frontline, support and communication trenches, dugouts and displays of equipment and supplies of British and Allied armies.
The Trench Experience does not try to glorify war but is dedicated to commemorate and celebrate the memory of the millions of men and women who fought and died. Away from the fighting it will show how troops took rest and relaxed in the estaminets (makeshift cafe/bar) some of these men kept journals, wrote books, poetry and music. We aim to illustrate this now through our growing web site and later in a permanent exhibition space.
